Durham made the first impressions as they open the scoring through Andrew West, however that did not shadow Lancashire as hey went on to score 33 unanswered points. Zak Day demonstrated the first fight back with his boot just before half time to cut the deficit to 33-10 at the break.

Throughout the first half, the wearsiders were pulled back on two occasions for forward passes with the try line beckoning. With this in mind, coaching staff remained positive at the break reminding the boys to keep to the game plan and move the ball wide at every opportunity.

Hooker, Ryan Allan opened up the second half with power as he powered off the back of the maul from a catch and drive lineout. The conversion from James Burdon was soon one of two when he quickly got the opportunity to add another two points to the score after skipper Andrew Miller darted across the line following a quick tap penalty. What appeared to be a game in the bag for the Lancs was quickly challenged by Durham in a chasing 33-24 score line.

Persistent pressure from Durham resulted in lock head, Andrew Linighan crashing over to bring the score back to a four point deficit. Although, this situation was soon to change after centre Liam Checksfield put in an elegant angled grubber kick behind the Lancashire winger – Durham’s speedy right winger Alfie Lawson put them back in possession as he was first to the ball. The chance was executed by Checksfield as he chased down his infield kick over the Lancs tryline for five points under the posts. Burdon slotted the conversion between the posts to lead 36 – 33.  A final Durham score came from another catch and drive lineout seeing Ben Walton finish off their amazing come back with an unconverted try. Lancashire did manage to get a score back on the final whistle to make the final score 41 – 40.

Well done to all the players and the coaching staff.
