Junior Disciplinary

Guidelines for the sending off of junior players

1. WHO IS COVERED BY THE SCHEME?

All club junior players from U13 – U18 and ALL schoolboy players in inter-school games where the game is refereed by a Society or Club based referee.

2. WHO IS NOT COVERED?

Club players who are U18 but playing in a senior team (dealt with by Senior Disciplinary Committee)

3. WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR A CLUB PLAYER?

(a) When a club U13 – U18 player is sent from the field of play, the referee Sends a report of the incident to the Junior Disciplinary Secretary who will contact the Club to convene a Disciplinary meeting in the club of the player concerned as soon as is feasible.

Copies of the report are made available at the meeting.

(b) The JDS will attend the meeting of the Club’s Disciplinary Committee Together with a representative of the County Committee, the object being to observe, consult and advise as to the nature of the appropriate action to be taken. The referee may also attend if the JDS considers it necessary.

(c) When the action has been decided, the JDS records the action taken and this is filed and passed on to the Senior Disciplinary Secretary at the end of the season when the player leaves junior rugby. If the player attends a rugby playing school, the JDS informs the school of the action taken. The school is asked to uphold the judgement of the disciplinary hearing.

4. WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR A SCHOOL PLAYER?

(a) Having received a copy of the referee’s report, the JDS copies it to the Headteacher of the school which the player attends and suggests a suitable course of action. (Tariff guidelines are printed in the ERFSU Handbook). The Headteacher has complete jurisdiction and so may adopt, adapt or disregard the advice given. The Headteacher is asked to inform the JDS what action, if any, has been taken and this is recorded.

(b) If the player is also a club player, the JDS informs the Club so that the action is binding on both the Club and the School.

5. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE PLAYER DOES NOT PLAY AGAIN UNTIL THE RESULT OF THE DISCIPLINARY MEETING IS KNOWN.
