Pyman Cup Rules

HARTLEPOOL & DISTRICT RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION.
Pyman Cup Rules (Agreed AGM Wed 21st July 2005)
(and amended AGM Wed 23rd October,2013, 20th May, 2014)
1.    The name of the Competition shall the “Pyman Challenge Cup Competition”.
2.    The Competition shall be under the Management of the Hartlepool & District Rugby   
Rugby Football Union.
3.    Entry shall be open to the 1st XV of Clubs in RFU Club Level 8 and below and the 2nd XV of Clubs in Level 7 and above. Entry criteria to be reviewed annually.
Entry to the Pyman Shield Competition shall be decided by the Management Committee on an Annual basis.
4.    ELIGIBILITY OF PLAYERS

Every competing team shall number 21 players,( 4 of which shall be trained/experienced in the front row positions, with a maximum of 12 interchanges allowed)  each of whom shall be a “Member” of the club they represent.  A “Member” shall be deemed to be one who has paid his annual subscription and has played for his club in one or more matches appearing in the current fixture card of his club provided that:
  1. a member who by reason of injury has not played for his club and has not played during the current season for any other club shall be eligible to play in the Competition.
  2. no individual shall play for more than one club in any of the Cup Competitions, neither shall he have played during the current season in any Cup Competition

organised by any other County. A player who is likewise qualified who has taken part in competitions promoted during the season in H.M.Services, universities and colleges shall be eligible to play for his club.

  1. A “Member” must not be registered to play League Rugby Union with any other club.

Pyman Shield

Every competing team shall number 21 players ,(4 of which shall be trained/experienced in the front row positions, with a maximum of 12 interchanges allowed, unless both teams agree to alternative arrangements,) each of whom shall be a “Member” of the club they represent.  A “Member” shall be deemed to be one who has paid his annual subscription and has played for his club in one or more matches appearing in the current fixture card of his club provided that:

  1. a member who by reason of injury has not played for his club and has not played during the current season for any other club shall be eligible to play in the Competitions,
  2. no individual shall play for more than one club in any of the Cup Competitions, neither shall he have played during the current season in any Cup Competition organised by any other County. A player who is likewise qualified who has taken part in competitions promoted during the season in H.M.Services, universities and colleges shall be eligible to play for his club.
  3. A “Member” must not be registered to play League Rugby Union with any other club.

All applications to the Committee regarding the validity of a player’s qualifications must be made to the Honorary Secretary at least 7 days prior to any tie in which it is decided that he shall take part.5.

Drawn Games
In all ties except the Final, if after 40 minutes play each way, the scores are equal

then the team that has scored the most tries shall be the winner.
If this does not produce a winner then the side that has scored the most goals from tries shall be the winner. 
If this does not produce a winner, the side that has scored the most penalty goals shall be the winner.
If this does not produce a winner the side that as scored the most dropped goals shall be the winner.
If this does not produce a winner then the visiting team shall go forward.

If in the Final the scores are equal after 40 minutes play each way, then the game shall continue for ten minutes each way.
If no result is forthcoming then the team that has scored the most tries. shall be the winner.
If this does not produce a winner then the side that has scored the most goals from tries shall be the winner.
If this does not produce a winner, the side that has scored the most penalty goals shall be the winner.
If this does not produce a winner the side that as scored the most dropped goals shall be the winner.
If this does not produce a winner then the Cup shall be shared.

6.    Match Officials, shall be supplied by the Durham County Referees Society.
7.    The legal ownership of the trophies shall be vested in the Hartlepool and District Rugby Football Union, the winning Club shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of the Trophy.
8.    Infringements. The Management Committee shall have power to disqualify any individual or Club for infringing any of the Rules.
9.    The Management Committee shall have power to amend these Rules. Seven days clear notice of any such amendments must be given to Clubs in the Competition.

      The first rounds of the Durham County Cups in the Junior, Intermediate and Senior Cup will take place this weekend between clubs across the County.
