SUNDERLAND RFC LADIES TEAM UP WITH NANDOS TO TACKLE COST OF DEFIBILATOR

Sunderland Ladies spark a flame with new sponsors Nando’s Sunderland to tackle the cost of a club defibrillator.

This Fathers Day, Sunderland Flames will be setting up in Sunderland Nando’s for a coffee morning fundraising event to fund a club defibrillator.

Sunderland Flames announced their new partnership with Nando’s Sunderland earlier this year, confirming they would be sponsored by them in the 2017/18 season.

The competition to win a year’s sponsorship was launched to sports team in the area in February 2017.

Beth Geehan, Sunderland Flames Social Secretary applied for the Sponsorship and was over the moon to tell the team they had been picked for top prize.

Geehan said: “It is fabulous to get such a well known and recognised sponsor, not only for our profile as a team but also the support they can offer us.

“We are looking forward to Sunday being the first of many projects we will work on together!”

By hosting a coffee morning at the Sunderland store, Nando’s and Sunderland Flames are hoping to raise a percentage of the £900 and upwards amount needed for a club defibrillator.

Although, of course, it is always hoped that the defibrillator will not be needed – it is still the case of saving a person’s life if there is one to hand.

Geehan, added: “Raising money for a defibrillator will not only ensure we are fully equipped to help save the lives of the others but potentially save the lives of people close to our heart.

“On a personal level having someone in my family with a heart condition is a constant worry and knowing that this piece of equipment is around – makes us feel safer.

“Over the last few years we have lost playing members of our rugby family, we hope we never have to use it but having it means we can provide a quick response and the care needed.”

To help raise the funds, it will be a fun filled morning with tombola, cake sale, children’s face painting and a special appearance from the Nando’s feathered mascot, Barci the Cockerel!

Get down to Nando’s Sunderland to enjoy the fun, 118 High Street West, SR1 1TX from 9am – 11am on Sunday June, 18!
