Durham Senior XV start to the 2016 campaign is disappointing

After a very late change of venue from Gateshead RFC to Blaydon RFC the game kicked off 15 minutes later than scheduled.

The change seemed to affect Durham more than their visitors Leicestershire who took the lead after only 3 minutes when Ian Smith the Leicestershire 15 carved his way through the Durham defence.  The visitors had scored 3 more converted tries to be leading 0-28 at the half hour.  It was only then that a weakened Durham side seemed to wake up and managed to score 2 tries to make it 14-28 at the break.  After half time Durham were much more positive but despite adding 2 more scores they could not prevent the big Leicestershire outfit running out 28 – 38 winners
