Hartlepool Rugby Club set for tour to America
Hartlepool Rugby Club are set to celebrate their 125th anniversary in the USA as they jet off on rugby tour, tomorrow.
The week-long senior tour will take 26 members including, players, volunteers and officials to visit two of the Country’s greatest cities, iconic sites and two rugby clubs.
The seaside town rugby club will make their first stop in Boston for a three night stay, that includes a fixture against Boston Irish Wolfhounds.
Heading five hours south, the next stop will be on Saturday as they take the bus to the notorious New York City where they will remain for the remaining four nights.
After taking in the sites of New York, and visiting iconic landmarks such as; Faneuil Hall Market Place, Fenway Park & Cheers Bar in Boston and the 9/11 Museum, Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty, they will pull the black and white jersey on to play their second game across the North River in New Jersey against the Union County Rugby Mudturtles.
Liam Lester, Hartlepool’s Director of Rugby, said: “The USA tour is sure to be a fantastic and memorable experience for all those involved.
“It is another great demonstration of the ambition within the club and follows hot on the heels of our recent Under 14 tour to Dubai.”
In order to make the eight hour trip to America, the Hartlepool tourists have self-funded the tour, with kit and transfers being funded through club comedy nights, live music events and prize draws.
Lester added: “We decided a couple of years ago that we wanted to plan something ambitious to celebrate this anniversary, and so we are doing that with our first tour into another continent.
“We are really looking forward to the fixtures in both cities, and of course the post-match hospitality that the host clubs have lined up for us.
“Hopefully we can play our own small part in helping to grow the game whilst we are there too.
“As we get set to celebrate our 125th Anniversary next season, this really is an exciting time to be part of Hartlepool Rugby Club.”
